A/W 1999-2000 is seen by many as one of Helmut Lang's most groundbreaking seasons. Inspired by astronaut uniforms, motorcycle safety gear and rave subcultures, Lang created a subversively elegant and uncompromisingly modern universe that has since then inspired a long list of designers.  The collection's aggressive aesthetic introduced a variety of elements that came to define Helmut Lang's output during his brand's final years. This iconic pair of trousers features numerous pockets on the thighs and legs, while the waistline and legs are decorated with large contrasting zippers. Like most of the collection's signature pieces, it was shown on both men and women.

The cut is slim and narrow with a biker-inspired articulated knee shape and a tapered leg. The fabric is a medium weight woven cotton with a soft, fleecy texture and a considerable amount of stretch. This makes the trousers comfortable to wear without compromising on the form-fitting silhouette. The thigh pockets feature two separate compartments, combining welt and cargo patch pockets. The right side features a flap for a subtly asymmetrical look. More zipped pockets can be found on the back and legs. Overall, the trousers have 14 exposed zippers and 11 storage compartments. 

Like all Helmut Lang trousers from this period the construction is of a high standard. The waist features Lang's signature strap adjusters with chunky polished silver hardware. The fly closes with an exposed zipper and a concealed anchor button that prevents uneven stretching. The interior seams are finished with contrasting binding to prevent fraying and the pockets are lined in grey textured fabric. 

Helmut Lang's layered bondage aesthetic has defined contemporary fashion, and these statement trousers are an excellent demonstration of the inimitable aesthetic of one of his most memorable collections.
